I am searching for records re my Maher Ancestors. Connnor Maher who married Mary Tracy (Treacey). Their daughter was Winifred Maher who was my Great Grandmother. Winifred aged 22, arrived in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia, 15th August 1876, along with her siblings, John 26, Margaret 18 and Johannah 16. They arrived on the ship, SCOTTISH BARD which left Britain or Ireland on the 18th May 1876.

Hope someone can help

Regards

Jennie Morgan

  • Hi Jennie

I couldn't get a match for the marriage of Connor Maher and Mary Tracey in Tipperary on www.rootsireland.ie/ but did find one for Cornelius Maher and Mary Tracey 1844; there were also Thomas 1839 & 1846 & John 1848 all marrying Mary Tracey (busy girl!)

It costs to view the full record on rootsireland but it will give you the parish; it MAY also give you the parents' names - some do / some don't.

The baptism record of Winifred is also there - 1851 - mother Mary Tracey & father CORNELIUS Maher so looks like he's your man.

  • thanks Col I will check it all out. I intend to visit Ireland in September this year. I want to visit the area where Adamstown was in Templemore but cannot find where I could stay that would be close. I will come by train so will not have a car to drive around. Do you have any suggestions of where I could stay? I am a pensioner so would prefer budget accommodation. Any help would be appreciated

    Thank you

    Jennie
