My great great grandparents John Delahunty (born 1818), and Hanora O'Connor (Connors born abt 1825)  were married in Templemore 30 Oct 1845.  they had a son Jeremiah born 1846 in Tipperary.   The also had several children born in the United States.  Mary Frances, Margaret, Hannah (or Johana) , John Jr, Thomas, and Anna. This was the birth order.

Was it customary for the oldest son to be named after the paternal grandfather and the oldest daughter to be named after the paternal grandmother ?

I found a record from Drom Parish Tipperary for Jeremiah Delahunty and Mary Doyle married  21 Feb 1814.  Itried sending an email to the pastor of templemore but received no reply. 

Would it be best to send an inquiry by regular mail and how do the find the church address in templemore?

    You don't say which religion your people followed, and I assumed they were RC.  However when I see the word Pastor instead of Priest then I'm wondering if they were protestant?

  • Hi Linda,

    Here are two addresses of the relevant churches.  I feel you may do better by snail mail rather than email.  Many priests are quite elderly now and don't use email.  If you had an email address, it probably goes to the parish secretary instead.
