Hi,

I would like to get any info on my ggggrandfather and mother who lived in Grange townland in Thurles.I have found out heaps about cousins and aunts etc but not on them directly. www.fanningfamilyhistory.com

I would like to find out about her Darmody family and also where they are buried and death dates etc. Very difficult I realise and I may have found out all I'm going to given the paucity of info on early records.

He was Edmund Fanning and married Johanna (Judy) Darmody in 1808 in Thurles Parish. Patrick Darmody is a witness. Father or brother? Her family lived at Racecourse in Thurles. His father was Willian Fannin of Lissaroon Inch Parish and mother was Sarah Ryan. They are buried in Ballycahill Cemetery.

The children of Edmund and Johanna were:

John Fanning born Thurles Parish 20 May 1809 godparents: Edm Callinan & Biddy Fitzpatrick. I think he married Margaret Fitzpatrick and they had two children Edmond and Catherine She died in 1864.

Michael Fanning 23 Sept 1810. He may have ended up in Tazewell Illinois after marrying his second wife Bridget Phehan. His first wife being Catherine Keyes of Dromard

William Patrick Fanning is my direct ancestor and he emigrated to Australia in 1841 with his wife Catherien Hayes. I have no information about Catherine's family or birth etc.Her death record doesn't list her parents unfortunately. They were married in Cork and I have been unable to find any marriage record! Most likely they married just before they left on The Enmore 22 June 1841. A brick wall here. The Hayes surname being almost as common as Ryan hasn't helped.

Catherine Fanning born 25 Nov 1813

Sarah Fanning 6 Nov 1816 died 10 Sept 1888 buried in St Mary's protestant Cem Thurles. She married John Sheehan and was a shopkeeper/publican in The Quarry Thurles. I have traced her decendants. She was the grandmother of Archbishop O'Donnell of Fethard who ended up in Brisbane Australia.

Mary born 20 March 1821

Honora born 19 Feb 1823

Edmond born 8 Nov 1824

Patrick 4 Dec 1826

Honora 30 May 1829

Edmund's occupation is mostly given as laborer which may explain lack of info but he is listed as a farmer in Grange in later birth records.

Any info or leads on Catherine Hayes, the Darmodys and Edmund Fanning of Grange and their children would be great.
