County   as surname ?  or is it Canty ?

Researching  Michael County (farmer )  married Anastasia/Antice  Manton Tipperary Ireland

Children   Margaret County born 1834 M 1857  Patrick Buckley and settled in Geelong Australia

                James County born 1837  M 24.1.1860 Catherine McCarthy  Sth Aust. settled in Geelong

                Mary County   born 1839  Died aged 26years 1/4/1865 Geelong

Not sure if any more sibllings 

Catherine McCarthy ( Carty ) on marriage certificate parents were John McCarthy married Mary Ryan

(James Maher on marriage certicate parents Michael Maher  & James Carty ?)

cannot find any other marriage certificate

 

We cannot find any information on above but believe they came from Thurles found a death certificate for Anastasia County aged 80 Stradovoher 17/10/1868 also Thomas County aged 30 died 29/9/1868  in the household of a Mary Carthy  Any help would be very much appreciated . We have hit a brick wall been searching for 35 years plus without results.  Nana said that their name was County O' Maher

    I looked at the Griffiths Valuation head of household listing and there were only 10 Countys listed for all of Ireland : 9 in Cork and 1 in Kerry. The survey was conducted in Cork in 1852 and Tipperary in 1850.

    I also looked at www.familysearch.org and found the 1868 death index record for Thomas County in Thurles (which you already have) but I also found an 1864 marriage index record for a Thomas County in Thurles (below). I assume it is the same person. You can write to the GRO to get a copy of the record www.groireland.ie  Fill out their form, provide the year, registration district (Thurles) and the volume and page number (18 and 559). Costs around 4 euros.
