Hi

On 13 January 1862 Mary Moroney (baptised 19 Apr 1841 in Coolbaun Tipperary - I cannot find this village anywhere, probably misspelt) married Thomas Ryan (also known as Ryan Mahony) possibly born in Doon but do not know.

Witnesses were Patrick Cahill and Catherine Cahill.

Mary parents were Michael Moroney and Mary Quinlan.

Siblings names and baptism year - John (1829); Daniel (1831) Michael (1833-1840); Denis (1835 - 1914, died Keroit Vicotria, Aust); Margaret (1837 - ) ; Bridget (1838 - ) and Michael (1843 - ).

What am I looking for?

1. Anything about Thomas Ryan - especially fathers name

2. Anything from the siblings of Mary Moroney

3. Anything about the death of the parents, including Quinlans. Based on baptism records I have Phillip Quinlan and William Quinlan, both born somehwere between 1810-1825 I suppose

I will submit a separate post re the Ryan/Moroney children.

Cheers

Brendan

  • what parish was your Mary Moroney baptised in ?

There are five townlands named Coolbaun in Co. Tipperary, the name of the parish might help narrow down which one Mary was from

    Good morning.

I wish I knew. I consider myself lucky that the children knew her mother maiden name.

All I have I received from TFHR. I have reviewed their records and maybe it is just an internal reference they use, or it may answer your question.

The Register for all 8 children is Doon/431 and their address for all is Coolbaun.

    Cheers

  • I thought since you had a baptism date would have been given the name of the parish

I see Doon among the RC parishes TFHR website mention on their website, I see if any of those townlands I mentioned would have been within that parish

  • The RC parish of Doon is sometimes listed as 'Doon & Castletown' and covers parts of Counties Tipperary and Limerick, so widens the search area a little...

The civil parishes it covered were Doon (Limerick/Tipperary) and Castletown, Co. Limerick

There is a townland named Coolbaun in Castletown civil parish, so in the Co. Limerick section of Doon RC parish.

Castletown Civil parish is quite small, only five townlands including that townland of Coolbaun, see the townland on the 1st Edition OSI Map - here

The nearest town is Doon, also Co. Limerick, abt 5km to the north, which is where the parish church was located.

  • Hi Brendan

I'm not sure whether it helps but there are 5 baptism records for Mary Moroney Tipperary 1841 on www.rootsireland.ie/

3 are from Newport RC parish 1 from Nenagh RC & 1 from Dunkerrin RC

There is a marriage of Mary Moroney & Thomas Ryan 1860 in Limerick; the parish is DOON RC

The record MAY have the parents' names
