Hello, I am searching for Michael Condon, born about 1818, Tipperary, died Bombay, India 1864.
He enlisted with the East India Company in 1839 at Limerick and was sent to Bombay in 1842.  He gave his birthplace as Tipperary, Tipperary. He travelled with a wife, Mary, and 2 year old daughter, Judith.

I have  found a marriage on Rootsireland for Michael Condon & Mary Finn 3rd Nov 1835 at Monsea, Tipperary.  There is no mention of Michael's residence, but Mary is from Ballyhogan.  No parents are mentioned, but witnesses are John Hogan & Judith Condon.

Also on Rootireland was a baptism for Judith Condon, date 15th March 1840 at Nenagh.  Parents are Michael Condon & Mary Finn.  Sponsors are Pat Finn & Cath Finn.

Any help if finding connections to these people would be appreciated.

Hilary Condon

  • Good morning Hilary-

the parish registers for Monsea start in 1835- , the marraige register only records the name of groom, name and address of bride, and the witnesses- so there is not much other information that came be gleaned from them.

I concentrated on Finn first- there is a Finn family living in the townland of  Ballyhogan,  the civil parish is Knigh, and there is a transcription error, says Tim Firm

the following link should give you a map of Ballyhogan in about 1845 from osi.ie-

    http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,584158,684595,5,8-

the snpashot shows a Red Cross- on a crossroads- which is called locally as 'Finn 's Cross'- so it should be save to say that the Finn family lived in this area.

i will try and find out more for you  in the next few days.

    best wishes lulu
