Hi

I am trying to trace my GG Grandfather James Carroll's birth place and his family. The death certificate says that he was born in Tipperary. His father was also James Carroll, his mothers name was Mary.

My GG Grandfather had a brother Edward. They were Roman Catholic. James and Edward emigrated to Australia (possibly seperately) between 1850 and 1853.

Thank You

Sue

  • Hi - Thank you for your message.

Most Catholic records are held locally - One site which might be of use is - http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/ - where you can ?browse? an overview of available records per county. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for possible assistance.

Some sites & services for Tipperary genealogy/family history include:

    http://www.from-ireland.net/county-tipperary-genealogy/

    http://www.interment.net/ireland/tipperary.htm

    http://www.igp-web.com/tipperary/

    http://www.tfhr.org/

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you very much for your interest in my Carroll search. At the moment I am waiting for state records to send information to me which may confirm that James Carroll was in fact a convict, will let you know what comes of this enquiry. Sue
