I have been unable to verify the following details.

According to the death certificate of my husband's gret great grandmother, Bridget Kennedy ( nee Pryor), she was born at Drum, Tipperary to parents Thomas Pryor and Margaret Corcoran C1835.She married John Kennedy at Thurles, Tipperary C1853 and sailed that year for Australia from Liverpool aboard the Agincourt.

According to the death certificate of John Kennedy, Bridget's husband), he was born C1834 to parents Matthew Kennedy ( farmer) and Kate Cahal.

The naming of "Millgrove" in Victoria, Australia, is reputed to be named by John Kennedy an early pioneer of the Upper Yarra district, after his homeland.

Victorian Kennedy relatives were invited to the JFK's inauguration, supposedly because they were related. How related, I haven't a clue.

If anyone can shed some light on any of these details, I would be extremely grateful. My husband and I will be visiting Ireland in June this year and would appreciate knowing a little more when we visit Tipperary

  • Hi Rosemary,

The baptismal record for Bridget Pryor, father Thomas Pryor, mother Margaret Corcoran, in the parish of Drom, Co. Tipperaqry in 1831  can be found and viewed on www.rootsireland.ie

The marriage record for Bridget Pryor marrying John Kennedy is found also in Drom, Co. Tipperary in 1853.

Have a look also at www.askaboutireland.ie and click on the Griffith Valuation.  You will find Matthew Kennedy renting land in North Tipperary.
