Hi,
You could try searching Ellis Island Free port of New York passenger records http://www.ellisisland.org/ The record may say where the person or family came from in Ireland. I see you have checked the U.S.Census.
The Brooklyn Daily Eagle Newspaper 1841-1902 online http://eagle.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/Default/Skins/BEagle/Client.asp?Skin=BEagle&AW=1345386286968&AppName=2&GZ=T
The land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here:
www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at. Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38). Microfilm copies of the books for all of Ireland are available at the National Archives of Ireland (NAI) http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/tithe-applotment-books-and-the-primary-griffith-valuation/ also Familysearch.org.
You could try searching http://www.rootsireland.ie/ Tipperary South. (Fee involved) Find a Grave is a site that has millions of Grave, Cemetery records and photos.. http://www.findagrave.com/
Posting a little more information on L.Dargan might help you connect with someone researching the family. Example : Full name, was L.Dargan Male or Female. Did he or she emigrate or live in Clonmel South Tipperary.
Good luck with your research.
