My great great grandfather, Michael Geary, was born about 1830 in County Tipperary and emigrated to the US in 1849.  He married a "Galway gal," Catherine Glenn, who, I believe, he met here in the states. They married in 1855. My great grandfather, John Philip Geary was born in New York City in about 1857. (He had gold fever and came here to Colorado where grandma was born.) Michael and Catherine had two other sons, Martin and Michael - who became a priest. In 1870 the family was in Schuylkill, Pennsylvania working in the coal mines. Michael, Catherine and Martin ended up in Boston. Son Michael in California.

I know this isn't much to go on, but it doesn't look like Martin had children and Michael obviously didn't, so     I don't have much hope from another direction. My dad always said I got "all the Irish." (I'm assuming this is a compliment, don't you!?) I hope I can find out more about my Irish.

Thank you

I went to Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie and searched for baptismal records for Michael Geary. Since Tipperary is a large county, Roots has the records separated into Tipperary North and South. There were no Michael Gearys in Tipperary North.

In Tipperary South, however, there was an 1832 Michael Geary baptismal record. His fathers name was John and the record was in the Clogheen RC parish. No idea if this is your Michael. Was the John born in 1857 the oldest son?

Also, some parishes in Co. Tipperary don't have records going back that far so if he was baptized in one of those parishes then his record is not on Roots and not available at all.

Roots is a pay site to view a transcription of a church record.

If you go to Roots and search the indexes use the Exact name match search rather than the Standard name search. If you use Standard you will get many Michael Maguire records.

Let me know if you have any questions.
