My gg Uncle, Frederick Fitzgerald said he used to cross the Shannon from Tipperary to Clare to go to dances on Saturday night. I am trying to locate his parish and townland.
Parents names were Edward or James Edward Fitzgerald and Mary Bruder..
Siblings were Michael (1821), John (1828),Patrick (1830), Margaret (1836), and Edward (1841). Frederick was born about 1844. Dates of birth are approximates .
Frederick and his siblings came to the United States. John and Margaret went to England first and then to Kansas, USA . The others settled in Michigan, USA at various times from 1848-1864.
Mary, the mother, may also have come to Michigan, perhaps with Edward ( 1841) and Frederick.
I see only Ballina/ Killaloe or O'Briensbridge in County Clare on the current maps and have been searching in those areas.
I welcome any insights or information that anyone could provide me.

Have you tried www.rootsireland.ie ? Frederick may not have been born in Tipperary as birth records should be available for him & I didn't get any, If you can find a birth record then you can find the parish.
However, you will only locate the arish if a significant event occured there - birth, death, marriage,census or Griffiths valuation.

Hi there,
I couldn;t find your people in the date ranges in Tipperary. However when on roots ireland I found a Michael, John, Patrick, Margaret, Edward and Fredrick all with a father called michael fitzgerald in the parish of St. Michaels in Limerick city.
It would be very easy to get bogged down in thinking they were from tipp on the stories you g uncle used to tell, however if your g uncle was going to dances then the chances of him still living at home are low. Once people were considered reared in their teenage years then boys tended to become farm labourers or such and girls went into service or found other work. Kids didn't stay at home with their parents llike they do nowadays.
The records are there should you want to open on of them to check the parentage.
