Hi I am trying to find out more of my Great Grandfather Robert Horan he was born in Tipperary Ireland  to Michael Horan and Ellen Mockler. They also had a daughter I know of Mary born about 1862.

I think Ellen was baptised in Boherlahan, Tipperary to Patt Mockler and Mary Divane in June 1831.

I am wanting to know how I can trace this family as I cant seem to get any further. I am not an expert at this family history and any help or guidance would be gratefully received.

I would love to know if it is possible to find out any address or any information of any family still in Ireland

Regards Heather

  • Hi Heather,  The Horans I researched were from parish of Golden/Kilfeacle.  In 1857 James Horan married Johanns Skehan from parish of  Boherlahan/Dualla.  Same parish where Ellen Mockler was baptised.  I know three of the boys born to this couple emigrated to Australia in  1880  and more went to USA,  at the same time.  Does it sound like your family.

  • Hi Heathkid,  are you in Australia or USA..  I will go throuh list of baptisms  for the children of James and Johanna.  If your Robert is an uncle perhaps one of them will be called after him. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

  • Hi Christina,

I am very interested in hearing more about the research that you have done on the Horans from Golden/Kilfeacle.

My Great great-grandfather John Horan was born there possibly on 29 June 1835 though I am not sure if that date is totally accurate.  I believe that John was the son of James Horan and Elizabeth Malony.  I am also not sure if these names of his parents are correct.  John Horan married Julia Slattery also from Kilfeacle on 3 Jun 1858.  I found their marriage record in the Golden and Kilfeacle parish records.  John and Julia Horan came to the USA in 1860 and settle in Bay City, Michigan in the early 1860's.

My Great great-grandmother Julia "Julianna" (Slattery) Horan was born in Kilfeacle on 18 Mar 1835.  Her parents were Timothy Slattery and Mary Mullally.  Julia had a brother named Patrick Slattery, a sister named Catherine (Slattery) Kelly, and a sister named Mary (Slattery) Vennix who all also settled in Bay City, Michigan in the early 1860's.  While searching the Golden/Kilfeacle records I also found a Bridgett Slattery and a Margaret Slattery born in the late 1830's who may have also been sisters of Julia (Slattery) Horan.  This Margaret Slattery may have possibly married John Long in Golden in 1866 per another record I found.

As for John Horan, I have not been able to find his birth record in the Golden and Kilfeacle records and I do not know the names of any of his siblings.

If you have any information about this John Horan and any of his family I would be very interested in hearing about it.
