Seeking to find information on my great great grandmother Catherine Magee (various spellings) who arrived in Australia about 1852 or 1853 with her sister Eleanor.  On various papers, mainly their childrens' birth certificates, gave their place of birth as Lisduff in Co. Tipperary - on one occassion gave Black Rock in Co. Tipperary (husband was the informant on the certificate).  Their parents are recorded as James Magee (Meghee, etc), a farmer, and Catherine O'Brien.

Please can anyone help me work out the parish so I can take this further?

  • Lisduff  is  a  townland  in  the  civil  parish  of  Kilcooly.  Catholic  parish  of  Gurtnahoe,  Diocese  of  Cashel  and  Emly .  Baptisms  and  marriages  start  being  registered  in  1805.  Tipperary  Family  History  Research,  have  done  a  great  job  recording  the  registers.  A  small  fee  is  charged.

Their  email  is    research@tfhr.org.    I  will  try  and  do  some  more  research and  get  back  to  you.

Let  me  know  how  you  get  on.  Best  of  luck  with  your  research.

    God  bless  and  kindest  regards.

  • Thanks Christina.  I'll put together as much info as I can and contact the Tipperary Family History Research people by email over the weekend.  I'll let you know how I go.  I look forward to hearing from you again.

    All the best
