I have traced my Family Roots back to my Great-Great-Grandfather Patrick Treacy (c. 1794-1878). His Family lived for a time at Carhoon, Tynagh, Galway and he then moved nearby to a farm at Derrew, Kilquain, Galway. Patrik's brother Nicholas Treacy (c. 1797-1886) continued to live at Carhoon, Tynagh, Galway.

Family History says that before moving to Carhoon, Tynagh that my Treacy Family came from the Two-Mile Borris/Littleton, Tipperary areas. This is possibly where my Gr.-Gr.-Grandfather Patrick or his brother Nicholas were born.

I am looking for anyone who has knowledge of Treacy's from the Two-Mile Borris/Littlon, Tipperary areas.

Thanks,

Jim Treacy

  • Hi Jimj

The earliest Tracey birth/baptism records from Tipperary on www.rootsireland.ie/ are 1785 & 1790's I'm afraid

There are 2533 Tracey records 1785-1920 in Tipp

There are 65 from Borrisoleigh, 17 from Borrisokane RC, 22 from Borrisokane Civil & 15 from Littleton

Neither Borris nor Littleton is in the list of

  • Col,

Thanks for the quick reply. I am a little confused by the geography of that area, I know that Littleton & Two-Mile Borris are near each other. They are in the Civil Parish of Borrisleigh and the Catholic Parish of Moycarkey. The Civil Parish of Borrisoleigh is some distance away.

I tried RootsIreland.ie, I found a Baptism for a Michael Treacy from Moycarkey on 09Oct1802. His parents were John Treacy & Margaret Keogh. I also found a Church Baptism for a Mary Treacy also from Moycarkey on 27Nov1804. Her parents were James Treacy & Catherine Burke. In addition I found a Church Baptism for a James Treacy from Moycarkey on25Jul1807. His parents were John Treacy & Nancy Burke.

I also found a Church Marriage for a Michael Treacy & Nancy Ryan in Moycarkey on 12 Apr1841 and another Church Marriage for a Mary Treacy from Borris to a Patrick Brein in Moycarkey on 08Feb1810.

If my Treacy Family came from that area these people could be relatives. They match the area and general time frame that I believe my Family might have lived there.

There is also a Michael Treacy from BallyDavid in the Tithe Applotments & Griffiths Valuations.

None of this is proof, I am hoping to come accross someone who had Treacy relatives from that area in the early 1800's or so.

You never know, I might get lucky!

    Thanks,

    Jim

  • Sounds like good progress Jim

There are only 2 Treacys in the Irish phone book in Tipp; I am not permitted to pass on their details on this site but the phone book is www.118.ie/; choose peole search and enter Treacy and Tipperary. Drop them a line - as you say - you never know your luck

  • Col,

According to this website there are at least 90 Treacy's in Tipperary:

    http://www.eirphonebook.ie/#

The hard part will be to find one who had relatives in Twomileborris/Tipperay in about 1800.

    Thanks for your help.

  • I actually was able to get in touch by phone with 2 Treacy Familieis in the area.

Neither family knew anything about their old relatives. It was worth trying, but was not sucessful.

I found a few more Treacy's in the Tithes

In addition to the Michael Treacy from Ballydavid, Twomileborris that I mentioned above, there is also

    Martin Tracy, Burris, Twomileborris, Tipperary

Patrick Tracy Grague, Moycarky, Tipperary 1829

Thomas Tracy, Forgestown, Moycarky, Tipperay, 1829

The botton two are also listed as 1831 Tithe Defaulters

Patrick Tracy, Farmer, Grague, Moycarkey, Co. Tipperary.

Thomas Tracy, Farmer, Fugertown, Moycarkey, Co. Tipperary.

Does anyone know where Grague, Forgestown/Fugertown are located?

    Thanks.
