My 3x Great Grandmother was a Fanny Alexander nee Becham.  Fanny died in Glasgow in 1869 aged 77 years but she was originally (I think) from Camus, Tyrone.  Her children appear to have been born there anyway.  Fanny's parents were Matthew Bechum and Rhoda Smith according to her death certificate, and this is where I have a problem.  For the life of me I cannot find the surname 'Bechum' anywhere.  I'm sure it has probably been misspelt, but I can't find anything even close.  Can anyone help.  I just want to know that the name is possibly correct.  Many Thanks for just reading this.

Christine.

    Hi Christine,

This is a tricky one. I have done a search and cannot find any information on the Bechum surname either. I also tried to search for it on the Irish Times surname search engine which shows surnames recorded in Ireland in the mid-19th century. There were no results for Bechum or Becham, however I did find some for the variant Beecham:

Perhaps the name developed over time or was misspelled somewhere along the way? Or is it possible that the name should have been spelled Beckham?

Sorry I couldn?t be of more help.

    Kind regards,
