Looking for ancestors of Thomas Salley B. circa 1820 Omagh County Tyrone married Annie McCafferty B.1819 County Tyrone D.1893 Ballarat Victoria Australia and travelled to Australia arriving 22 October 1841. Thomas was last known to be in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia but death and burial unknown.

  • You don?t say what denomination your Sall(e)y ancestor was but looking at the 1901 census for Co Tyrone, all but one were RC (43 RC & 1 Church of Ireland).

    You can see what RC baptism records exist for Tyrone on this link. Unfortunately you will find that not all parishes have records for the 1820s.

  • I don't know if our ancestors are related, but my Bernard Sally was born about 1825 in County Tyrone. He married Bridget Fitzpatrick on March 22 1849 at St. Patrick's RC church in Dungannon. They arrived in NY USA on May 4, 1849. On a trip to Omagh'S Ulster Folk Park library, I found the Sally home was on/near Ballgawley (sp?) Road, and Bridget's home was a stone's throw away. I used Griffith's valuation and other tools along with old and current maps to locate this area. Bernard had a brother, John, who married Margaret Muldoon.
