  • Hi,

    Thanks for your message.

Do you have any other information on Michael that you could post? The names of parents, any siblings that he may have had, did he emigrate, religious denomination? The more information you have the more likely it is that someone may be able to help you.

You could try searching for information on Michael in Church records.

Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may help you is the irishtimes, as they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Clashmore parish follow this link:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Waterford&parish=Clashmore-and-Kinsalebeg&churchid=115

For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/

Another useful website is www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html Some Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland records are currently being uploaded here free of charge. However, this is an on-going project so not all records are available yet.

You could also do a search for Michael or his family in the land records pertaining to Ireland. There are two:

The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) You may be more likely to find reference to his father in these. You can do a search here: http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

The Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) If Michael did not emigrate he may be in these.

    http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

If he did emigrate..do you know much about his emigration? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure, so if you knew what city he arrived at it may be a place to find some information on him.

Some other websites which may help you in your search are:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

    Family Search: https://familysearch.org/

I hope some of these links help you. Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,
