The subscription site Roots Ireland has a September 24 1857 baptismal record for a Michael Mulcahy with parents John Mulcahy and Mary Condon instead of Conlon. The parish was Newcastle in Co. Waterford on the Co. Tipperary border.

Michael had at least seven siblings John 1854 James 1856 David 1859 Margaret 1860 Edmond 1864 Mary 1866 Thomas 1869

The parents were married at Newcastle church on February 5 1854

The family lived in Glasha townland in Kilronan civil parish

Looks like John died in 1905   https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

  • Hello, Karen D.:

Do you have a family tree posted anywhere?  Perhaps we are related.  My GGF was Tom Mulcahy, born in Newcastle in 1836.  I’ve recently discovered Tom was one of 7 children born to Patrick Mulcahy and Johanna Flynn between 1826 and 1838, all born in Newcastle.  Tom emigrated to the U.S. - not sure when - but he was in Memphis, Tennessee, by 1860.  At least one brother, William, came with him, but other Mulcahys, perhaps cousins, and several Ahearn families from Ardfinnan (in Tipperary, but the same RC parish of Newcastle) came to Memphis as well.  Indeed, right after he arrived in Memphis, Tom Mulcahy married my GGM Alice Ahearn.  This to me is just astonishing!  Think about it…..I’m poor and hungry in Newcastle in 1850, so one day I look at my girlfriend and say, “Alice, let’s move to Memphis and get married.”  Really?  How did this happen?  I would love to know.  I’m sure it was more than just Mulcahys and Ahearns.  Possible other families were Griffin, Crotty, Flynn, Nugent, Green, and Lonergan/Lanigan.  Who or what led these people to Memphis, Tennessee?  I would love to find relatives. My tree is on ancestry, and my Gedmatch is BA1927501.

    Regards,

    Kevin Kern
