I am trying to research the Doran family. Looking for birth- marriage - death information. Actually, anything would be helpful! Here is what I have discovered thus far: John Doran married Bridget Whelan around ?  1819 they had 2 sons - John jr and Michael. John jr was born about 1820 in Newcastle, Waterford. He was baptized  on June 10, 1821 in Clonmel, Tipp. John jr married Bridget Kendrick Jan 1844 in Newcastle. They had 7 children -William, Richard, Thomas, Catherine, Michael, Margaret, and Mary. William  married a Margaret Hart in Ardfinnian, Tipp. - they had 9 children- John, Bridget, Roger, Patrick, Richard , Mary, Kate, William, and Margaret.  Bridget ( my great grandmother) emigrated to the US and married Arthur Peter O'Neil who was also from Newcastle.  I would like to find John Doran's parents as well as Bridget Whelan's . Thank you so much for this service !

  • Hi there,

Given the names, and given the information Eamonn shared with you.

Your ancestors may be mine as well.

My 4th great grandmother, Catherine Doran, was born to John Doran & Bridget Whelan in Kilkenny, 1802.

Catherine Doran married Patrick Drew in Callan, Kilkenny in the 1820s.

  • Robbfitz-

This is exciting! Do you have any info on John Doran and Bridget Whelan? I was assuming My John was the eldest born 1821 but if Catherine was born 1802 then there must be a lot of other siblings. Perhaps a John died earlier and the name was reused.

Kilkenny is a new place for me to search thank you Eammon Horan and Robbfitz!
