Hello, My ancestors from the BRUTON and CULLY families emigrated to NYC in the mid-19c.  They were in the Coralstown area.  I visited Kinnegad, Coralstown and Clonard last year--lovely area.

Does anyone know anything of either of these families in that area now?  Altho they were in Killucan civil parish, they were in Kinnegad Catholic parish.  Thanks.

  • Hi there,

You are correct about differentiating between the two types of parishes. Killucan civil parish is located in the Catholic parish of Kinnegad. There are 63 civil parishes and only about half this number of Catholic parishes in Co. Westmeath.

Did you check the 1901/1911 census to gain some idea of the number of those families living in the area at that time? You can check for this here: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

  • The father's name was James Bruton and they were in the Coralstown area in the townland of Hightown/Balloughter.

I'm sorry for the delay. I thought I answered this last year but I don't see my reply.  Hope this helps.

  • Ah, I do apologise, I neglected to mention that. I wish to merely offer my assistance with your research. I tried to send a message several times but I never had any reply from you.
