Killucan or Kinnegad

Thank you for your reply.  Yes, I would be grateful for answers to these three questions.

First, In what exact year did the RC parish of Killucan divide into the two RC parishes of Killucan and Kinnegad?  It matters in the search for family records.  I have not had any luck in attempts to contact the current parish of Kinnegad about this question.  I think it was sometime in the 1820s.

Second, was Clonard, County Meath part of Killucan RC parish before the division?  It was part of Kinnegad RC parish after the division and still is.

Third, where can I find a history of the town or parish of Kinnegad, or of the area?  I have been amazed to find that I have three sets of great-great grandparents from this one parish:  Bruton and Cully in the Coralstown, Westmeath area; Graham and Cunningham in Clonard, Meath; Kelly and Riley in Clonard, Meath.

I have contacted the library in Mullingar and someone who is said to be knowledgeable about local history but no replies.  I visited last year for several days and hope to go again.  It would be great if people who lived in the area could provide general historical information.

Hi Eliza,

I looked at the original Kinnegad Parish registers on a visit there in 2006. The earliest record (page)in the marriage register was in 1844. I'm not sure of the earliest record of a baptism, but the earliest I found for my Kinnally family was in 1828 and that was for the youngest child. The oldest was born ca 1815.

See if you can contact Monsigneur Eamon Marron, retired pastor of Kinnegad Parish. It was he who told me that Kinnegad had been split off from Killucan and he might know just when it occurred.
