Seeking any information, but importantly their dates of birth. Think surname was O'Sharry then. Death certificates Patrick's d.o.b. ca 1835 and Bridget's ca 1837. Patrick's father was Patrick also and his mother was Ann Garty. Are buried in different towns in unmarked graves. I aim to place headstones bearing these unknown dates.

Both were born at Killucan. They were married at Killucan in 1862 in which year they migrated to Queensland, Australia on the ship "Maryborough" which departed from Liverpool with some migrants onboard, but Patrick and Bridget were among those who boarded at Queenstown, now known as Cobh. The Maryborough weighed anchor at 3:30 p.m. on May 26th. 1862, arriving in Moreton Bay, Queensland on 26 September 1862, a journey of 113 days.

I am prepared to buy a Marriage Certificate if it is available.  May be some help. All help greatly appreciated.

  • Robin,

You won’t be able to buy a civil marriage certificate if the marriage was in 1862 as RC marriages were not recorded in the statutory marriage records till 1864. However you may be able to view the entry in the church register, which is on-line free:

  • Thanks Elwyn,

At the registers.nli.ie/ parishes site under Killucan, Westmeath have found an entry on May 18 1862 which is a possibility. 'Pat Sharry" is clear. Bride's name was Bridget Crinyon (or Crinnon) a difficult one to clarify. Present is possibly 'John Crinnon and Ann Sharry'. Do you agree with that interpretation? Would appreciate your thoughts.

Have not yet found a date of birth for Patrick Sharry (about 1834) which is the one I desparately need.

    Regards,    Robin Sharry.

  • Robin,

I read the entry as “Pat Sharry and Biddy Crinnon. Present John Quinn and Ann Sharry.” Biddy is of course a  diminutive of Bridget. So I think you have the right marriage. Well done.

You could search back and look for their baptisms too. They may well be there.
