  • Hi Bob

There is a baptism record of Richard Connell with father Richard 1833 Westmeath on www.rootsireland.ie/

The parish of the record is Rochfortbridge R C.

Each record costs 5 Euro and I'm not sure what other info it will have - MAYBE his mother's name and sponsors' names.

  • Thanks Col. That is very exciting information.

I see that  Rochfortbridge is about 14K from Mullingar.

Richard's various officlal records in Australia state that he was born in Mullingar. It is likley that he would have used Mullingar rather than  Rochfortbridge. That is, was it common for people of the time to list the County town rather than their actual nearby village.

    Thanks.

    Regards

  • Sorry Col. Typo of mine. My previous entry should read "Is it likely?"

  • I think that is a valid assumption Bob.

If you have a look at the Tithe Applotments (free online) you'll find 50 Connells (3 Richards) in Westmeath 1823-34 with lots in Mullingar but no mention of Rochfortbridge in the list of parishes!!

  • Hi Col,

Richard Connell senior was married to Mary Killian, no other details. Do you see anything of them in the records?

    Thanks.
