Hello! I am in Ireland at present researching my family tree. I have already made great progress on Ancestry but nothing beats visiting in person. I shall be in Clongeen tomorrow and wonder if there are any Church records available to view. My main person of interest is my great grandmother Margaret Kelly born c 1878. On the 1911 census her place of birth is listed as Clongeen. She must have moved to Liverpool at some point and married a Thomas Reilly from Fermanagh in around 1900. I am trying to confirm who Margaret's parents were and would appreciate any help. Kind regards, Abigail

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked on Roots Ireland in the Clongeen RC records and I found one Margaret Kelly baptismal transcription in 1877. See below. I also searched for other siblings with parents Patrick Kelly and a mother with the surname Warren. I did not open the records but found records for the following: Martin 1871 Joseph 1873 Thomas 1874 Denis 1879 Mary 1881 Anne 1883 Anastasia 1885 (likely died young) Anastasia 1888 Bridget 1891.

Here is a link to the parish register for Clongeen for 1847-1880 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0589

You could stop at St. Aidans and see if they will open the book for you.

  • Hello Roger

Thankyou for being so helpful, it is very much appreciated. I also have the names of Mary Warren and Patrick Kelly as parents but wasn't completely sure as I hadn't found any record for an Anne Kelly with the same parents and an Anne is listed on the 1901 census records from Liverpool (living with sister Margaret and brother in law Thomas Reilly. Margaret and Anne must have left for Liverpool late c.19th but their parents and siblings appear on 1901 and 1911 Irish census records for Cullenstown/Clongeen. I think there was a Mary Warren born in 1850 to a Petrus (is this Latin for Peter?) and an Eleanora Costeloe. I visited Clongeen today and couldn't believe how rural the area was.

    Kind regards
    Abigail
