Searching for the descendants of THOMAS & BRIDGET MURPHY (nee PARLE), my gg grandparents.  Their son NICHOLS MURPHY (my g grandfather) came to Wales in the 1880s, settling in Port Talbot, where he married in to the O`Brien family.  Any connections would be great.  Keith . • Hello

I am not the volunteer for Wexford and am not sure if there is one for Foulkmills. (Spelling is with a "k") The name Murphy is very common particularly in Wexford but Parle I never heard of but there appear to be plenty of them.

First you could examine the census of 1901 to see if Thomas and Bridgit are still alive then, see http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ There are 222 Thomas Murphys and 242 Bridget Murphys in Wexford.

I searched Ancestry UK and got a number of hits when I searched Bridget Parle but no son Nicholas, a lot of Nicholas Murphys born, but I noticed that a Bridget Parle gave birth to a child surname Grace who had a child NIcholas Murphy. Irish civil records started in 1864 so Nicholas may be born in that period, catholic church records are here but a tricky read expecially if you do not have dates or even a year. http://registers.nli.ie/

Have you any idea of a birth year for Nicholas and we could start there, what age was he when he died, have you a death certificate, what religion was he, assuming catholic.

A land registry done mostly in the 1850s is here and lots of Parles in Wexford. http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/#

If you can give an birth year even approximately I may be able to get a birth for you.

    Regards

  • Thanks  a lot Pat. I have the details regarding Thomas and Bridgit from the parish records.  I am interested in contacting the descendants of Nicholas` siblings.  Parle appears to be a common name in S. wexford.  The name, obviously French in origin, is saod to be from French sailors who were shipwrecked on the saltees.   I remain most grateful for help and will follow up these links. Will be in touch!  Regards.  Keith
