Searching for Luke Treacy, b. abt 1790, father of William Treacy, b. 1813, probably baptised in Wicklow.

James & L Treacy are registered in the Tithe Applotment book of the Parish of Kilgorman, Co. of Wexford & Union of Arklow as holding 27 acres in Kilpatrick (date unknown). Have no idea if this is 'my' Luke Treacy, but William's death certificate of 1888 lists his father's occupation as 'farmer', mother 'Not Known'.

William Treacy received a life sentence for being in possession of a firearm, tried at County Kildare, Ireland 12 July 1834, (he was a White-boy), & was transported from Dublin aboard the "Lady McNaughton".

This is essentially all the information I have for William prior to his arrival in Sydney, so any information at all would be very welcome.

I will be in Ireland for 1 month from the 2nd of September this year, & am interested in hearing from/meeting up with anyone who could help me in my quest for this relatively unknown branch of my extensive Irish family tree.

  • Thank you very much, Pat - more than grateful for your help!

William's death certificate names a non-family member as the person providing the information for registering the death certificate, which is a bit odd seeing as he still had nine (of 13) living children, so I suppose that explains the lack of information regarding his mother, and the lack of anything other than 'Ireland' in the 'Where born' section.

William was shoe/bootmaker by trade, and could read and write English - he got a very good convict placement because of this ability, and things worked out well for him.

have everything organised for my visit - now have to be patient until September, which is very hard!

    Cheers

    Anne
