Hi ,

I am seeking information on my maternal gg/grandmother  Jane Payne whom we believed hailed from Wexford .Jane was born circa 1842/4 and is listed in the 1901 british census as coming from Ireland ,she married a Matthew Hardiman from Dorset England ,this marriage took place in the spring of 1876 at Portsmouth ,Hampshire ,England

other family researchers have suggested Wexford as her birth county ,but looking at location charts of that period the greatest number of Payne Family seemed located in the Cork area any help would be appreciated..

    I went on www.rootsireland and put in your jane payne 1842.  It s free to join and peruse, you only pay to view a record.

    I found 2 jane Payne .

    1 jane paine 1839 Co. Mayo                    and        1 Jane Payn 1838 Co Kildare

    These records are there should yuou want to view them.  Don't get hung up on spellings as most people were illiterate and the local priest recorded everything phonetically.
