Hi,

just found out that my great grandparents were born in Co Sligo (per athe 1911 Irish Census) and have located their marriage certificate.  Can't believe this good fortune.

According to the marriage cert, they were married on May 12, 1872 in the parish/district of KILFREE and KILLARAGHT.  Oops - their names are Patrick CASEY and Bridget POWEL.  They are Roman Cath.  sadly, the information about their parents is missing.  Witnesses to the marriage are listed as John Scanlon and Margaret Powel.

If anyone has any information on the Scanlon family and/or possible connection or info on Margaret Powel (possibly Bridget's sister?), sure would love to hear about it.  Family history says that Patrick worked for the Irish Railroad - they did move quite a bit and finally settled in Co Kildare in village of Moone.

    Based on your note, I'm wondering if you have the marriage record from the church as opposed to the civil marriage record which would show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom plus where they were living when married. I found the civil marriage index record which is below. You can write to the GRO www.groireland.ie to get a copy of the record. Fill out their form provide the year of marriage, registration district (Boyle) and the volume and page number ( 9 and 49). Cost around 4 euros.

    thanks so much for the good info   the certificate i got was from the rootsireland.ie website.  i will def check with the GRO for more information.  In fact, we will be in Dublin in November and I am tr;ying to figure out the best way to do some research there and yet not use up all of our limited travel time in a library....
