Boystown (Wicklow) is a Civil Parish in the north-west of County Wicklow bordering County Kildare. The Roman Catholic Parish is similar in extent to the civil parish. The RC parish has undergone name changes over the years, having been known as Blackditches and Boystown, and today is know as Valleymount. The neighbouring civil parishes are: Burgage, Blessington, Hollywood, Kilbride (Blessington), Derrylossary, and Ballymore Eustace (Co Kildare). The neighbouring RC parishes are: Blessington, Kilbride, Hollywood (is a part of Ballymore Eustace RC parish), Ballymore Eustace, Eadestown (Co Kildare).

The local Church of Ireland  (Anglican) parishes are Blessington and Ballymore Eustace. There was also an old Quaker (Society of Friends) settlement near Valleymount in the past. The graveyard is still there.

The local graveyards are Baltyboys and Burgage. There are also nearby graveyards in Hollywood, Ballymore Eustace and Kilbride. I hope this helps. If I can be of further assistance please feel free to contact me.

  • Hi, I will be visiting the Boystown and Blessington areas in October before going on to Dublin for more research there.  My ancestors lived in the Ballydonnell and Ballylow area in 1840's and later, but much earlier too.  I have found them in the Blackditches/Valleymount RC church images.  Can anyone suggest any specific "don't miss seeing this" when we are there?

    Thank you immensely,

  • Part 2 for October visit.  I forgot to say that my people were Carney/Kearney and Doyle.
