Hugh Byrne, born Kirikee abt. 1770 married to Sarah,  taken to Australia 1805 cousin to Arthur Devlin and Micheal Dwyer.

We know about them in Australia, but don't know much about them in Ireland.

Looking for ancesters like everyone else I guess of Hugh and Sara, Hugh's father is Sylvester Byrne.

Any thing will help that is to do with area they were in or people related.

Regards

Lorraine Byrne

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

RC records for Rathdrum start in 1795 for baptisms and 1816 for marriages. Looks like the records start too late for your interests.

There are many Byrne records in the 1825 Tithe records for Rathdrum but I d don't see any record in Kirikee.

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing. Possibly you will match someone with more information on the Byrne family.

  • Hello Lorraine, have you had a look on Ancestry.com? There are 67 trees there showing the family you are searching for. Have you read the book "The Tellicherry Five" written by Kieran Sheedy? It tells the  story of the transportation of Michael Dwyer and the Wicklow Rebels, Hugh Vesty Byrne being one of them. It is published by The Woodfield Press. Does this info look familiar?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  This is some of what I gleaned from Ancestry for you so it may pay if you are able to have a look. Obviously it is not certain that this has all been verified. My Byrnes are from the Glenmalure valley, Baravore Townland to be exact. There is a dim possibility your Byrnes and our Byrnes maybe distantly connected. All the best with it all. Bridget.
