Dear Win
As you can see from the link below, Knockainey is a Civil Parish in Co. Limerick:
Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Knockaney and Patrickswell begin in 1808. As this is the case, there will be no church records for James? baptism or any marriage; neither will there be any marriage record for his parents. Unfortunately when parish records are not available, the search for Irish ancestors can become very frustrating. You may have to consider gathering information about the family from older sources like the Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith?s Valuation, until such time as records become available in the future to substitute those parish records.
Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1837): http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp
Griffith?s Valuation (1847-1864): http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
One website that is very handy for updating information about records availability is the Irish Genealogical Research Society: http://www.irishancestors.ie/
I include a link for Limerick resources that may be of interest to you:

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Best of luck with your search
