I am researching my daughter's paternal family to John Walsh, her great-great grandfather.  The only information I have on him is being born in June of 1843, in Ireland, immigrating to America in 1860 and becoming a naturalized citizen in 1864.  He eventually settled in St Louis, Missouri, USA.  It is also possible he resided for a short while in the state of Mississippi, before arriving in St. Louis, and that makes me believe he may have disembarked at New Orleans.  I have searched passenger lists and in other areas, but with such a common name, no luck yet.

To further research the Walsh line, my brother-in-law submitted a Y-DNA test in hopes more could be discovered about the family.  The results are difficult to decipher, but there seemed to be a great deal of people living in Meath who are related. Since I have so little information to go on and have hit a dead end, I thought submitting a message might put me in contact with one of these individuals. Of course, there is no guarantee these DNA cousins are a Walsh, but perhaps I might be lucky and at least one is a relation or someone researching Walsh in the area.  If anyone has suggestions, I would be happy to hear from you.  Thank you!

  • This is the only 1843 Meath baptism record for John Walsh Meath on www.rootsireland.ie/:

    Name:John WalshDate of Birth:
    Date of Baptism:23-Aug-1843Address:
    Parish/District:MOYNALTYGender:MaleCountyCo. Meath
    Denomination:Roman Catholic
    Father:John WalshMother:Bridget Newman

There are 139 other John Walsh baptisms in 1843 from other counties.

It would take a long time to check all of them for a birth of June - a lot only have a baptism date; it's hard to know whether John could have been baptised at 2 months or earlier.

There are 33 Walshes in the Irish phone book in Meath so perhaps you could do a mail-out (www.118.ie/)
