I am looking for information about my 2 times great-grandparents who were born in Wexford, I do not know which parish.  They are Dennis Bolger, born 1810 or 1812, son of James Bolger, and Anastasia Ronan, born in 1822, daughter of Matthew Ronan and Bridget O'Donohue.  Dennis and Anastasia were married in 1854.  Their Children were also born in Wexford, Mary Bolger, 1856; James Bolger, 1859; Catherine Bolger, 1859; Thomas Bolger, 1862; John Bolger, 1864.  The family emigrated to the US via Canada around 1867 and settled in Michigan.  I found a marriage record on Ancestry.com, but it is difficult to read.

I plan to visit Ireland within the next couple of years and hope to find some extended family there.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I was able to locate the 1854 marriage record in the Castlebridge RC parish. Record is below. Here is a link to the parish register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0587   I tried to interpret the townland name from the register and I can't make an educated guess. I do know that Castlebridge RC parish is on the east coast of Co. Wexford north of the town of Wexford.

The surname Bolger is very common in Co. Wexford so it will be difficult to find extended family.

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing.

Let me know if you have questions.

  • Thank you for the reply Roger.  That is the marriage record that I found on Ancestry.  I could not read the townland name either.  I have had autosomnal DNA testing through Ancestry, but haven't found that very helpful.  Thank you for the info though.

  • Hi Denise,

I think the townland might be Turkyle which is between Castlebridge and Ballymurn, spelt Ballymurrin in the Parish records. There was a Ronan family living in Turkyle on the 1901 census, http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wexford/Kilmallock/Tur… you  uploaded your results to wwwgedmatch.com?

  • Do you know if Dennis Bolger had any Siblings? I have a relative by the name of Johannah Anastasia Bolger/Bulger who I am trying to find relatives of. She married James Brown Crawford Muir after they both emigrated to South Australia.
