I am still trying to track down John Fitzsimmons (1805) and Ellin Leady (1814) from County Cavan. We think that my sister may have found them in the 1821 census John living with his Mother Mary, brother Thomas - head of the house,  and sister Ellen in Lurgan, County Cavan.  Ellin was living with her Grandparents Terry and Ann Masterson alongside two Uncles? Hugh and John and a Michi Reilly.

I have tried to find their births and marriage and the birth of their first son Henry but no luck, the family moved to the Leeds area of England in approximately 1838/39 and lived there until their deaths.

If anyone has any information on this family or how I may find some more information I would appreciate it.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Can you share links to the 1821 census records that your sister located? I assume the family was RC. The parish register shows a gap between 1795 and 1821 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0849 which would mean that the baptismal records for John and Ellen would not be available if they were baptized in Lurgan parish. I checked on Roots and did not find the marriage record or the baptismal record for Henry. Maybe they were in a nearby parish which does not have records for the period in question. For example Mullagh records start in 1842 and Killinkere records have a gap between 1790 and 1842. Just a thought.

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

  • Hello Roger

    Thanks for your prompt response.

My sister found the record mentioned on the Find My Past 1821 Irish census, as a non member myself I cannot see the record but I did see the entry, hope that is of some help.
