Looking for info on Bridget Daly first married to John Elms around 1825.  They had three children, Thomas Elms, 1830, Maria Theresa Elms, around 1832, and Katherine Elms, 1835.

Bridget Elms then married Thomas Byrne in Avoca in 1837 and had two children John Byrne and Jane Byrne - dates unknown but suspected to have been born in Avoca, Wicklow.

I have some information on them but do not know how accurate the information may be.  I have found a marriage date for Bridget and John Elms in 1825 but it was in 75th Regiment, Sterling, Sterlington, Scotland.

Any help wouold be appreciated.

  • Dear Dicky:

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and many thanks for posting your query to the message board.

I have done a quick search for a marriage record and baptism/birth record for the above on the Roots Ireland database, but nothing has turned up.

There is nothing on the Irish Genealogy database either.

If you have further information, you might contact me at:  jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com.

    All the best,

    Jane.

  • Hi Dicky,

My Burne family who loived at Ballykeane and before that Kilmacrea and befire that Ballyknockan in Rathdrum parish were Church of Ireland. Edward Burne spelled his name as Byrne prior to 1828 .Edward's father William Byrne of Ballyknockan was Church of Ireland when his children were baptised in the 1790s.

There was a William Byrne who signed the Convert Rolls in 1787 to change from Catholic to C of I though no address was given. Peter Byrne of Ballyknockan signed the Convert Rolls at Wicklow in 1779 and he could be from my family.

Byrne is a common name in Wicklow but there could be a connection  between your family and mine from Ballyknockan if Peter Byrne had many children. I found my 1790 baptisms on the Roots Ireland website,

Unfortunately the RC records don't  start early enough.

    I hope this hlps,

    Betty
