Just starting out on the journey to discover my family history. I've identified Thomas Luby (c.1832-1933) son of Eugenii Luby and Mariae Kelly (possibly daughter of Mary Cleer) as my 2nd great grandfather. He was married to Eliza(beth) "Linnie" Barco(e) also from Roscommon. Thomas left Ireland and raised a family in England - Fazeley, Tamworth, Staffordshire where he ran the Old Stone Cross Inn for many years and was a Borough Town Councillor and one of the Guardians for the Borough.  I would love to find out more about Thomas' and Mariae's (and my) Irish ancestry and am hoping that someone here might be able to help or give me some tips on searching. My brother and I are hoping to visit Roscommon / Mayo including Boyle in April. I have a tree going on Ancestry.com.  Thank you.

  • Nigel:

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I looked on Roots Ireland and could not find the marriage record for Eugene and Marie. I did find three older siblings in Boyle RC records: Mary 1826 Patrick 1828 William 1828  Here is a link to the parish register  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0548

I did check the Tithe listings and the Griffiths Valuation records but could not find a record for Eugene Luby.

  • Thanks for the quick reply Roger - that's great and all helps to build up the picture. Not so easy to read / interpret these parish records - I'll have to have a close look. Appreciate your help and I'll update anything else I find on here.  Regards Nigel Russell-Smith
