I have found death records in Croom for James Mackey in 1876 at the age of 63, and of Mary Mackey, presumably his widow, in 1880 at age 66. I am trying to find out more about them since they may be my great great grandparents.  My great grandfather, Joseph Mackey, name his parents as James and Mary; he lived in New York City for about 40 years and married Bridget Guiry from Newcastle West.   Any information would be most welcome.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Do you have the actual death records or just the index records? The reason I ask is that Croom was also a registration district which encompassed a number of parishes. If you have the actual record, what was the townland where they lived?

  • Thank you, Roger. I haven't been able to find the townland yet, but the record I have, from Roots Ireland, lists the address as Skule, attached.  Do you have additional guidance?  Thank you..  -- Barbara

There is no Skule in Limerick. Could be Skagh in Croom parish or Skool  in Fedamore parish.

    Hi Barbara,

Skule is a townland in Fedamore, near Croom. It would come under the civil registration distrist of Croom. It can also be spelled as Skool.
