The RC parish is Taunagh/Riverstown and records go back to 1803 although there is a gap in 1835.

I found the baptismal record for Patrick in 1832 as you indicated. Also Roots Ireland has baptismal records for siblings as follows: Maria 1826 Anne 1829 Bridget 1834 Thomas 1836 Margaret 1839  Possibly Rose Ann was the Anne in 1829. There could be other children. I also located the parents marriage record in 1825. See below.

The 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing only had one Mulhern record-- a John in Kingsbrook. Did the entire family emigrate to America?  http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/sligo/tawnagh.htm

Thank you so much for your quick response! I have been researching for ten years, but have neglected this branch of my family tree until now. My surname (Crowley) and my grandmother's maiden name (Ryan) have been difficult until I went back to the Mulherons. This is on my grandmother's side. 

That gives some of my background and provides a few of the reasons that I don't know definite answers yet. I believe that Patrick's parents, Thomas and Maria, stayed in Ireland. I will check on his siblings. I think Thomas, John, and (Rose) Anne did emigrate.

Thank you again. I hope to return to Ireland soon. I've visited five times, but have yet to make it to Sligo. I didn't know at that time that my research would end up there. Hopefully I'll find more answers and I am so appreciative that there are resources like this available.

Hello again Roger,

I wonder if you could tell me, are you familiar with this parish only? I am also looking for family in Mayo, I believe, though one record indicates Monaghan and another says Limerick. The names are Patrick Ryan (there's a brother Michael I believe) and Patrick married Margaret McGrael (McGreal or McGrail). She has been difficult to track down and Patrick Ryan is a VERY common name, so it's sifting through a lot of material. Patrick would be born around 1820 and Margaret around 1825.

I cover all of Ireland. So McGreal is a Mayo surname but Ryan is more Limerick/Tipperary but would be found in every county in the 19th century in smaller numbers.

I checked Roots Ireland and they had an 1828 and 1829 records for a Margaret Greal (or variant). The 1828 was for a Church of Ireland Margaret. The 1829 record is below. Since you don't know parents names, there is no way to confirm this record. Many Mayo RC churches do not have records back to the 1820s.

Thank you again Roger! Would you be able to also include the Church of Ireland record for Margaret? This story is a bit mysterious and not much, if anything, is known about Margaret. We do believe that her family owned land (which could point towards a Protestant background at that time). She left the farm, according to her journal, and never looked back. It seems she and Patrick could be a forbidden partnership. Not sure, but it's so interesting to speculate!

I'm not sure if this Margaret is our Margaret as it seems like she stayed in Ireland. This is such fascinating research. I hope that I can put all the pieces together someday of this very interesting puzzle.

Patrick Mulheron's sister Mary Mulheron married Thomas Bly in 1848 in Seymore, Ontario, Canada. They had several children in NY State, and eventually settled in Rock Run, McKean, Co., PA. Rock Run is located between Eldred and Port Allegany, PA.

Mary & Tom Bly are my 2nd Great-Grandparents.
