Can find no information for Patrick from his records while in USA. He came to USA sometime in 1880 along with a brother Bernard. His fater’s name is listed on his death certificate as Michael, his mother is listed as Alice Walsh.

Would appreciate help.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

McLaughlin was/is a very common surname in Ireland. Very common in Co. Donegal and some of the counties in Northern Ireland but also found in good numbers in many counties in the Republic of Ireland. I searched Roots Ireland and did not locate a baptismal record with the parental names you provided. Also, did not find a marriage record for Michael and Alice. Likely records for their parish are no longer available back to 1860.

However, when I searched for Bernard, I located an 1866 civil birth record which has great promise.

This record (fifth on the page)was for a Bernard McLaughlin born September 5, 1866 to a Michael McLaughlin and an Eles Walsh. They lived in Tamnagh townland in Banagher civil parish in Co. Derry. Banagher civil parish is in central Co. Derry near the Co. Tyrone border.

  • Griffiths Valuation for 1858 lists a Michael McLoughlin in Tamnagh who was a farmer with a 37 acre farm (plot 22) plus a share of a nearby mountain (for grazing). There was also a Patrick McLoughlin farming nearby on plot 20, so he may be a relative.

Michael appears to have died on 2.3.1898 at Tamnagh. The informant was his son Thomas.

This looks like Michael’s widow in 1901:

Alice died 24.11.1901. The informant was her son James:

This looks to be the farm in 1911:

Probate abstracts from the PRONI wills site:

McLaughlin Michael of Tamnagh Park county Londonderry farmer died 7 April 1939 Probate Londonderry 12 April to Edward McLaughlin farmer. Effects £88 12s. 6d.

McLaughlin Edward of Tamnagh Park county Londonderry farmer died 10 June 1945 Probate Londonderry 1 August to Patrick McLaughlin farmer. Effects £121 18s. 10d.

The wills themselves are not on-line but should be in PRONI in Belfast in paper format.

Banagher RC baptism records start in 1848 but have gaps. They are on-line free on the National Library site:

Great followup work. I was so surprised to find a civil birth record for Bernard that I stopped and shared the news.

  • Thank you for your time and information, I just wish that I had someway to confirm this information. I was intrigued to see so many boys in the family. My mother did mention that there were seven brothers, so perhaps?!
