Hello,

I'm trying to find information on a Patrick Maher born in 1791. If I take from his tombstone he was born about March 18, 1791. I did a search on the Irish census of 1821 and discovered a Patrick Maher age 30 living in house 23 in Knockarley of Roscumroe, King's. His father was Thomas Maher age 70, a farmer, and mother, Margaret Maher age 60. Patrick and another son, Philip, 22, were both listed as labourers. A 7 year old Patrick was listed as a grandchild to Thomas and a pupil.

I'm not finding a parish or a county on irelandxo. Is there one? Also, does anyone have a way of tracing their family back to this family and may have information if this Patrick immigrated to New York?

Thanks,

Kandi

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

There are very few surviving fragments from the 1821 census involving eleven counties including Kings Co.(Co. Offaly). Even though the age matches with your tombstone record, it is very unlikely that the census record you located would be for the same person unless you have other evidence that can connect the two records.

I did look at the 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Roscomroe civil parish and there was a Patrick Maher listed in Cooldorragh townland. No way of knowing whether this Patrick is the same Patrick shown in 1821 in Knockarley townland. https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/offaly/roscomroe.htm

FYI. We do have a parish page for Roscomroe parish in Co. Offaly  https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland/offaly/roscomroe-offaly

Let me know if you have any questions.
