My G-grandmother emigrated to Adelaide, South Australia in 1854, married, then later moved to New Zealand with her husband and children. The only thing we know of her origins is that she was born "near Castcomer, Kilkenny". That was probably in 1835. On some documents she was Bridget Dowling. She appears to have had a brother called Nicholas. Any information on the Doolans in the area would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Johnboy
My GG Grandmother was Annie Doolan. She immigrated to South Australia on the Ship Sea Park in 1855. Her father was Patrick Doolan (he died a year or two after arrival) Mother Mary Hynes Sisters Mary and Bridgit and brother Thomas or John ( I have conflicting names in different doccuments) I have been trying to find out where in Ireland the Doolins and O'Deas originated from
According to the State records for passenger lists below these are the only Doolans to immigrate to South Australia. I have also included like names. It is possible you Bridgit is my GG Grandmother Annie's sister. Annie married my GG Grandfather Michael O'Dea in Marion South Australia in 1864 and according to their marriage certificate, they were both from County Clare.. Her older sister Mary married a Dunn, but I have found no records of Bridgit or Thomas/John in Australia. List below show year of arrival first and the ship number second.

Have you had your DNA done through Ancestry? My Dad is listed as JO would be interested to see if you match. If you have any further information about your Doolan family, I would love to see if it will help me solve my riddle

Hi Colleenoday,
It is likely my Bridget (Doolan) arrived in Adelaide from Liverpool on the Nugget, 3 Jul 1854. "The Ships List" http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/nugget1854.shtml shows Bridget Dowling, aged 19, farm servant from Kilkenny on the Passenger List. However, she is not shown on the passenger list that appeared in the South Australian Register http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article49201707 Bridget married John Glover in St Patrick's Church, Adelaide on 29 Oct 1855.
I have had my DNA done, through FamilyTreeDNA. Because your father used Ancestry, he would need to post his results on GEDmatch, which enables DNA results from different suppliers to be compared. I look forward to seeing hime appear in my list!
