I'm looking for Grealy families from Creganna- especially Michael Grealey born abt 1810 in Co Galway who married Eliza Fahy of Peterswell, Co Galway abt -30Jun1846 [Marriage Certificat] de statu [libero] to Mich’l Grealey of Creganna from Oranmore Parish Marriage Books. Michael and Eliza Grealey/Greeley settled in Wapello Co, Iowa abt 1856. Other Fahy families from Peterswell also settled in Wapello Co, Iowa.

One Grealey family who stayed in Creganna Beg, Oranmore Parish was Patrick Grealey born abt 1826 who married Honor Burke bef 1842.

Any help would be great.

    Hi VCS
    Welcome to IrelandXO.
Attached listing of Patricks's family, may not be complete. Note Patrick was in America in 1868 noted on daughters Birth record. Members of this family later emigrated to Boston.
Possible Brother Joh who married in Missouri and moved to Iowa before 1856.

  • Thanks for the Info! Michael Greeley and John Greeley and a Mark Greeley ended up in Wapello Co, Iowa. Some Fahy families also ended up in Wapello Co, Iowa. The families then spread out into other areas of Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska.

I have  Patrick Greeley born in app. 1826 in Creganna and died 19Feb1906 in Cregana. It seems a lot of people left Creganna and surrounding area during the Famine. Was there an Emigration Scheme? How did they all afford to emigrate at this time?

Are there any Books, etc. about this area?

    Thanks for any help!
