I think they must have married in Ireland.  I am attaching a marriage to a John HOGAN and Ann GLEESON on 09 May 1858. However, I don't think this is them as I have them arriving into Australia as a married couple with some of their children in 1849.  My cousin travelled to Ireland in 2013 and we have a list of baptisms.  I must admit I am confused with this family.  Have all their information here in Australia.

The death of John Hogan in 1882, this is your relative, isn't it?

It states Father as Denis.
On the ship record I have for a John Hogan and wife Annie in 1849 aged 40, states father as Denis.

HOGAN John 1849 40 Nairn Dennis / Anna both dead None . R.C. {husb of Annie,35} Ship = Mary Bannatyne

HOGAN Annie 1849 35 Nairn Michael / Mary SLEESON living in Nairn {& 3 children= Dennis,11;Cath,9 & Michael,6.} Ship = Mary Bannatyne

Are these children from your family?
The only thing is I cannot find Nairn or Narine.   There is a place by that name in Scotland but it would sates Scotland on that ship record.  Must be an old townland.   I will keep looking.

Yes Margot, John Hogan is my 3 x g grandfather.married Ann Honorah GLEESON around 1834 in Ireland.  Yes I have been looking for "Nairn" too.

Hello, I've been following this thread not because this is my family, but because I have Gleeson family emigrants to Canada who could possibly be connected. I did wonder about a couple of things:

1. Are you certain the place name you're looking for is NAIRN and not NARIN? There is a Narin in County Donegal, Ireland.

2. I searched the Townland Database for 1851 and there is no listing for a townland named NAIRN

3. I did get one hit for a STREET named NAIRN in DUBLIN

3. NAIRN does turn up as an Irish Surname. Have you considered the possibility your listing was intended as a surname, a street name or some other reference?

A few other notes:

1. A HONORA GLEESIN was born on 12 Jun 1815 in TIERSHASHANAHAN, COUNTY KERRY. Her father is listed as Thomas and her mother as Mary Moor, however one of her baptismal sponsors is shown as a MICHAEL REGAN (possibly related to her son-in-law?)

Hi Sandra,

the problem with locating records for the time period that you are looking for is that they simply do not exist. Ann (Hanorah) Gleeson and John Hogan could have been married in one of the surrounding parishes,  and moved into Nenagh for work. Records in the Silvermines which has a substanial Gleeson population do not begin until 1841, Portroe 1849, and while the records in Nenagh begin in 1792, there is a gap from 1797-1818. Traditionally marriages took place in a brides home parish.

Gleeson and Hogan are extemely common surnames in the North Tipperary area. 

I would recommend considering DNA testing which may help in your search.
