I was recently visiting my cousins in Ballyconneely...I decided to search for my long lost Great Grandmother, Annie Fox.....I remembered my uncle John Dowd saying she was buried in the Ardbear Cemetery. I have searched in the past in the old overgrown sections to no avail. But, then after a while I found her!in plain sight . Her stone was aged but well kept. She has a large stone with only her name listed , she was born in 1866 and died in 1933. It appears that there is space for at least one more to be buried alongside her....and about 12 feet to her right side .... this leads me to think others may have been planning to be buried there. I would like to know about how her stone is being so well kept, Is there someone paying for the upkeep? Are there others around? relatives I don't know about?
I spoke to Josephine Wallace who is in charge of the records but said when she took over in 2004 there wasn't information...I should contact the Galway county council....I have but no response...
Any help would be greatly appreciated
