Hello All! I'm trying to learn a little more about my great-grandmother and her family.

Her name was Margaret L Hanly, born November 10, 1871 in Cappamore, Limerick, and she came to America in 1887.

The family lore was that as a teen, she fell in love with "the wrong boy". Some said he was Protestant. So the family shipped her off to America (New York Citty) on her own to the care of a priest they knew.

She then married an Edward Maloney (born 1864 in Ballineen, Cork, family living in Enniskean, came to US early 1880s) and settled in New Jersey. Edward's brother was a Catholic priest in Brooklyn, NY, so it's possible that was the fellow they entrusted her care to. But I don't know much else.

My grandmother, Agnes, was in touch with many Hanlys until her death in 1990, but we don't know much about them or how they were related. I have some names and addresses. (Not sure if I should share those here, since they're more modern?) But there were Hanlys she wrote to in Tipperary and Limerick (Cappamore). Also family I met with the last name O'Shea who had moved to England by the 1980s.

All this to say, I would love to learn more about this part of my family. Any assistance would be most welcome!
