I am researching a Jordan family form Co Mayo. I have Thomas Jordan in Bolton Lancashire in 1861, 1871, 1881 & 1891.  He dies in 1894.  In 1854 he marries a Mary Whelen  in Bury. His marriage certificate gives his father as an Anthony Jordan - Farmer.  I have not been able to find the baptism of Thomas Jordan with a father called Anthony in Co Mayo or indeed anywhere else in Ireland.

Any thoughts/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Graham

  • Further to my message above.  I have found a marriage of an Anthony Jordan to a Bridgit Howard on 18th February 1827 in Kilfian Parish.  This would fit with a birth of a son a couple of years later

    Thanks

  • Graham,

On the subscription site Roots Ireland, there is a record for a sibling Mary Jordan born 1 Sep 1835, baptized 3 Sep 1835 to parents Anty Jordan and Bridig Howard in Kilfian Parish, Mayo. Their address is Fahey. The sponsors are Pat Cormack and Winifred Howard.

  • GrahamAS:

I've been away for a few days and just seeing your message. The 1854 marriage record shows the parents of Thomas as Anthony and Annie, however, you located a marriage in 1827 for Anthony and Bridgit, Which name is correct?

The surname Jordan was very common in East Mayo particularly near Claremorris and Ballyhaunis.
