Chris Monks (pictured below), was born 14th November 1900 in Rush, County Dublin. He is Amanda's grandfather, and was the eldest son of Christopher Monks and Jane Monks (nee McMahon) He died in Cardiff, Wales in 7th July 1959 and is buried in Rush cemetery.

He left Rush when he was only about 17 / 18 to join The Merchant Navy - which is when he met her grandmother Jennet. Sadly, Jennet died in 1936 and her Grandfather died in July 1959, just a few months before she was born.

Amanda wanted to find and reconnect with living relatives and she did just that connecting with a whole host of Monk locals in Rush.

Dear (IrelandXO)

Mick (IrelandXO Volunteer) met us in Rush and took us to the cemetery, The Steps, which was the old Monks family home, and showed us around Rush itself before driving us to Maggie's house in Lusk. I will be eternally grateful to him for his kindness in doing that, what a lovely man. Maggie had prepared a gorgeous lunch for us and we talked non stop, sharing photos and discussing family members. Tom also met us in Maggie's house, and her sister and brother called in so I met up with even more cousins. We were all linked to Christopher (Kit) and Johanna (Jane) Monks through their children who were either our parents or grandparents. We got on brilliantly, and as there was to be a talk on The old Dublin Fruit and Veg Market the following night at The Strand in Rush, and as that was were Kit Monks and children used to take their produce, we all decided to go.( Really interesting talk too.) Thank you again, and to Ireland Reaching Out, we would never have found out so much on our own. I am so grateful to you.
