BIRTH
Anne Grant may have been born about 1810 and probably in Raheen Townland in the Diocese Kildare and Leighlin. Her birthdate was calculated from her marriage date. The townland was in Clonenagh and Clonegheen Civil Parish Parish in Queen's County (which was renamed County Laois in 1922), Ireland. If her address was on the east side of Raheen Townland, then she was born in Raheen Catholic Parish.
MARRIAGE
Anne married John Higgins in Raheen Townland in 1833. The event was recorded in Roman Catholic parish records in the Diocese Kildare and Leighlin. They owned a house and leased six acres of land two miles away to the east, in Colt Townland. Anne and John had a daughter, Eliza, who married Richard Byrne, and a son, Thomas, who remained single. Anne and John Higgins may also have had two additional sons, Denis and Jeremiah.
DEATH
The death record of John Higgins reported that he was married when he died in 1882 in Colt Townland. So Anne Grant Higgins died after 1882 and probably also in Colt Townland in the Clonenagh and Clonegheen Civil Parish in Queen's County, Ireland. The Catholic Parish was Raheen.
BURIAL
A John Higgins buried two sons in a Roman Catholic cemetery, Curraclone Graveyard, in Queen's County, east of Colt Townland. The part of Colt Townland on the east side was associated with the Curraclone Civil Parish. No other burial site with a gravesite for the family of Anne Grant Higgins and her husband, John Higgins, near Colt Townland was known as of 2021.

  • My great grandmother's name was Anne Grant, b. 1854, d. 1934.  She married Michael Duff in 1880. Her parents were Patrick Grant and Catherine Pattison, who were married in 1851.  Patrick was age 27 when he married.  He died in 1896.  The civil death record stats he was 72, which puts his date of birth at 1824. He died in the workhouse, and was from Colt, according to the civil death record.  His wife Catherine had already died.  You can obtain that information at no cost from irishgenealogy.ie, which is where I obtained it.  It's relatively easy to perform a search on that site.

In my family tree, I have his father listed as Patrick also, but I don't recall where I learned that.  It might have been from a sacramental record.  I calculated his date of birth at about 1800.  He had a sister named Eliza.  Again, I don't have notes re how I learned of her name.  If you like, I can make my family tree on ancestry.com available to you.  You don't need a paid membership to access it.  Contact me if you wish to do that.
