Joseph was born at Upper Shrahane House, Camross, County laois, Ireland to Joseph Thompson 1750, and Mary Fairbrother 1780 - 1871 (of Kyle). Joseph married Lydia Colclough in 1829. They had 6 sons and 4 daughters. Their son (my maternal great grandfather) Samuel Jacob Thompson, and his sister Elizabeth emmigrated to New Zealand. Samuel married Ellen Matilda Gardiner/Gardner (1852 -1916) In New Zealand. Ellen was of Roscrea, Queens County, father James Gardner/Gardiner
Joseph died at Lower Shrahane House.
