Mary Gowan married John Fitzpatrick, they had a daughter Mary(1800-1868) who in turn married a John Kelly(1798-1887). It is John Kelly that I am researching. I would be grateful for any information regarding members of these families. Thank you

Hello Nell and Deborah! Nice to meet some cousins! Mary Gowan and John Fitzpatrick are my GGG Grandparents. How are you related to Mary, Nell? My GG Grandfather is Timothy, who is Mary Fitzpatrick Kelly's brother. I'm wondering if either of you have ever actually seen a birth record for Mary? When I was in Co Laois almost 2 years ago now, I was told by more than one person that Gowan is definitely not a local name, so I'm wondering if Mary was actually born somewhere else. Any thoughts? On Timothy's birth certificate Mary's name appears to be Goin...somewhere there is a record of our Mary with a last name either Gowan, Gown, Goin or something similar

I have not been able to locate a birth record for Mary....she is a mystery just like John Kelly...at least for now

Thanks for your replies, Deborah! I have seen other records in the various spellings, no doubt based on phonetics... I haven't been able to locate a birth or baptism record for Mary either, but apparently they were hit and miss in Ireland at that time. I'm also wondering if I'm looking in the right places, or if she was born elsewhere. So many mysteries when you're dealing with Irish ancestry... :-) Thanks!
